Maybe I can live without carbs...

Okay, so my personal trainer has deemed me to be a carbs free zone (I'm allowed rice at the moment - woot) which made going out for dinner tonight kinda interesting but I purposely didn't say anything to the friend I was going to dinner with since I wanted to see how I'd cope.

A rubbish sit-com-esque, there being two WHSmiths in Liverpool Street, moment to begin the evening was swiftly followed by my delightful dining chum revealing that he'd in fact been in the house of two of my closest friends that very afternoon (Bedford *is* the centre of the universe*) we continued to Giraffe to explore the delights of baking gently under outside heaters in the cool evening air.

Much hilarious chatter and edamame beans, chicken and mango salad, and breaded prawns with the bread removed and the answer was apparently yes - I can at least try and avoid carbs even when having an entirely pleasant night out. I did have a beer though - but she didn't mention alcomohol -hah!

We then went for a further drink and much added hilarity - apparently I flush and get a look of pure rage on my face when he winds me up - joy.

A quality evening spent with quality people in a quality setting - and non rabbit food type -food and alcohol ...can't say fairer than that.

So last night - Lightspeed Champion, Operator Please and Ox Eagle Lion Man at Charlie Browns in Luton. Phoned to check door times - 8.30pm so mooched around - had a drink with a co-worker and met Rich at the station at 7.30pm.

Found the venue (literally 5 mins from the station - weirdly no distinguishing marks - but could hear sound check inside) Went and had a drink and some gorgeous Thai food at the Railway Tavern (delivered from the takeaway next door!) which was ace - tiny little pub too and the food was cheap and as lovely as any thai food I've had.

Went to queue up at 8.30pm and finally got in at 9pm!! Gawd I must be getting old - but I like it when a gig's at least partially over by 9pm! Anyways to the bands - Ox Eagle Lion Man - kinda melodramatic Nick Cave-y sounding - bought the vinyl single and got them to sign it. Operator Please - ace but the crowd were a bit shite and Amandah didn't look happy at all ... still good to hear the songs live though.
Lightspeed Champion - well- I'd really gone to see Operator Please - but stayed to watch and was glad I did - nice tunes. Got myself a t-shirt and some badges - altogether a nice evening - even if I did get home later than I would have done for a London gig !!

Went to the sales yesterday - got some trousers, hair clips and a shirt.

The karmic universe decided it was, in fact, my birthday yesterday as when we walked into the Krispy Kremes shop the man behind the counter just GAVE ME A BOX OF MIXED DOUGHNUTS !!!!!

Much love to that gentleman.

Went to Wagamama and it redeemed itself from our last visit - although they should hire at least two more waiting staff there to give the staff a chance.

Xmas season recap.

15/12 - Secret Santa in the morning - got just what I wanted - score !! (Sanctuary gift set and small box of Thorntons chocs) Afternoon = Harrods for our works Xmas lunch. Lovely food - day only slightly marred by the mad decision to make us sit with random people from work.
18/12 - Exams Xmas do. Not so brilliant - at Cafe Rouge in Victoria - food okay but nothing special and rubbish atmosphere.
22/12 - Last day of work. Afternoon spent nail painting and trivial pursuit playing before going round work mates house for an Xmas party.
24/12 - My bday!! Pressies and tea and cake. Got an amazing amethyst, pearl, garnet and fluorite silver bracelet, body shop smellies (perfume set and shower stuff), Thai food in the evening. A lovely, lovely day.
25/12 - Xmas Day - More pressies. Round my brother for Xmas lunch - Great meal.
26/12 - Round my brothers in the afternoon to see my lil nephew open his pressies.

Jimmy Carr tonight at Hammersmith Apollo was ace!

He actually built on a joke that came up at the Bedford gig he did this summer - Spiderman!! (believe me - you don't want to know)

Plus - meeting him afterwards - and getting my program and poster signed -proved that he *is* the nicest man evahs. :)

Had some people 'round for a civilised soiree last night.

All was going well until someone managed to let Stumpy out.

Today I look like a traumatised emo kid 'cos I had to go and rescue him from the thorn encrusted bush in which he'd hidden. Nothing too deep but lots of lovely scratches on my arms and leg and one along my jawline - but fear not Dawny admirers - I don't believe they'll scar my beautiful visage ;)

House buying is ticking along.

Went to see two films on Saturday -

The Prestige and Pan's Labyrinth

Both brilliant and highly enjoyable.

The Prestige.

Christian Bale is amazing and Hugh Jackman is ace too. The whole story is brilliantly constructed and the rivalry between the leads is played out well. David Bowie rocks as Tesla and with Andy Serkis and Michael Caine in supporting roles you really can't go wrong. Nice twists too - am interested in reading the book now.

Pan's Labyrinth.

Fairytale as allegory for the Spanish Civil War. Engaging, fascinating, beautiful and brutal.
The tension between the fairytale and the real world is beuatifully played out.

So to conclude - go see 'em peeps

    <lj:music>Fischerspooner - The 15th</lj:music>

I used to really like 'The Daily Show' - but they now have John Oliver doing things for them - someone I had the misfortune to do some youth theatre work with way back when- who is a total knob.

I can't find my mofoing passport - so if everyone would like to pray to the passport finding fairy for me - that'd be cool. Otherwise now doubt it'll turn up if we eventually get to move - but in the meantime I can't flee the country.

I'm still saying 'if' because I don't want to jinx anything - we haven't even had a survey on the house yet so I am still in a very 'wait and see' place right now ( whilst obviously still planning where all my furniture would go and how I would paint the place ;) ).

Re-discovered my electroclash love and bought myself the two Fischerspooner albums this weekend. Totally clash-tastic. Really want to see them live now.
